Season 2016-2017

Johann Sebastian Bach: Christmas Oratorio

Giving a festive start to our 2016-2017 season, the Paris Choral Society performed J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. We were joined by professional soloists and the accomplished musicians of the PCS Camerata, playing on period instruments. This concert was a selection of the jubilatory Christmas Oratorio: parts I, II, III and VI.

Handel’s Messiah: Sing-Along!

Perhaps you’ve already sung Part 1 of Handel’s Messiah, as well as the famous “Hallelujah Chorus”, maybe you’ve only just dreamed of doing it… Well, your chance to sing, or to sing again, this wonderful work becomes real each year on one Sunday in December.

All-Night Vigil (Vespers)

Friday, March 24, 2017, at 20h45 and Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 16h30 With text taken from the Russian Orthodox All-Night Vigil ceremony, this mesmerizing and masterful work is one of the richest and demanding pieces of a capella repertoire.   THe two performances of this concert were held at l'Eglise Saint-Pierre de Chaillot, which was the perfect setting to provide the acoustics necessary for this piece.

Season 2015-2016

Handel – Dixit Dominus & Coronation Anthems

We opened our 2015-2016 season with a performance of Handel's Dixit Dominus, and the Coronation Anthems. The Dixit Dominus (written in 1707 when Handel was just 23) is a spirited setting of Psalm 110, which challenges both the choir and the five soloists with nine movements of complex vocal runs. The Coronation Anthems, completed in 1727 for the coronation service of King George II, is rarely performed in its entirety. The regal splendour of the Anthems and the PCS premiere of the Dixit Dominus, all of this accompanied by the PCS Camerata on period instruments, made it a concert not to be missed!

Mozart – Mass in C minor

Fri. 8 and Sat. 9, April 2016

The Paris Choral Society and the Paris Symphonic Orchestra gave a concert of Mozart's C Minor Mass and Richard Burchard's Salzburg Missa Brevis. Mozart’s C Minor Mass (also known as The Great Mass) is an unfinished, large-scale work for solo sopranos, tenor, and bass, two choirs and orchestra. Living American composer Richard Burchard’s Salzburg Missa Brevis was inspired by the choral performances he heard in Salzburg, Austria’s various churches during the twelve years he spent teaching there. This a cappella* gem of a piece was a soothing contrast to the intense Mozart Mass, and the two pieces made for an incredible concert.

GLORIA! X3 – Poulenc, Rutter & Puccini

Fri. 3 & Sat. 4, June 2016 We closed our 2015-2016 season with a concert of three Gloria pieces by three different composers: Poulenc, Puccini, and Rutter. These settings of the joyful Gloria text were the ideal way to put everyone in a lighthearted mood, as we headed into summer.

Handel – Messiah Sing-Along (Part I & Hallelujah)

Perhaps you’ve already sung Part 1 of Handel’s Messiah, as well as the famous “Hallelujah Chorus”, maybe you’ve only just dreamed of doing it… Well, your chance to sing, or to sing again, this wonderful work becomes real each year on one Sunday in December in the American Cathedral in Paris, 23 Avenue George V, 75008 Paris.
